PLEASANTVILLE, NJ (May 9, 2017) – More than 50 seniors attended the City of Pleasantville’s Spring Fling celebration at the Pleasantville Recreation Center on May 5th. The event included lunch, music and entertainment such as a ‘one-woman fashion show,’ 50/50 and Best Hat Contest.
“This event is very special for those I like to call our ‘seasoned’ citizens,” said Pleasantville Mayor Jesse L. Tweedle Sr., who donned gloves and helped serve in the lunch line. “It’s a way for us to show how special they are to us, and gives them an opportunity to mingle and make new friends.”
Tables were adorned with flowers and spring hats, and a decoration of bird houses and teacups brightened the serving table, arranged by Doni Bettis.
“This is our 16th year holding the Spring Fling, and we’ve always encouraged the seniors to wear their loveliest hats,” said Pleasantville Councilwoman Judy Ward, chair of the Senior Citizens Advisory Board. “About seven years ago, I had the idea of turning it into a contest with a prize for the winner.”
The winner of the Best Hat Contest was Edna Munns, whose purple hat received the most applause from the audience, and who was awarded a ShopRite gift card.
Music for the event was provided by ‘DJ M2’ John Ward, spinning classic tunes that got hands waving and feet tapping to the beat.
